Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) in collaboration with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) have conducted the training workshop on Climate Modelling in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 29th June to 03rd July 2015.
The training is held under the umbrella of the on-going Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) Pilot project in Tanzania and Malawi. Participants of the workshop (TMA and Malawi Meteorological Department) are expected to learn downscaling techniques using PRECIS (Providing Regional Climates for Impact Studies) model. Thanks for the support from UK-Met office on facilitation of this workshop.
PRECIS is a system for generating high-resolution scenarios of future climate in a region.
Dr. Kijazi said the training is an opportunity to improve the understanding of TMA staff on the science of climate modeling as well as to develop their capacity to analyze data from climate models for climate change impacts assessments.
