Tanzania: Weather Experts Trained on Climate Modelling

Tanzania will soon have the capacity to conduct weather forecasts for longer periods of between 30 and 150 years, thanks to a new technology and training of local experts from the United Kingdom.
Director General of Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA), Dr Agnes Kijazi, made the revelation in Dar es Salaam while officiating at a five-year scientific training on climate modelling for weather experts from Tanzania and Malawi.
The training is held under the umbrella of the on-going Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) Pilot project in Tanzania and Malawi through the Providing Regional Climates for Impact Studies (PRECIS), a system for generating highresolution scenarios of future climate in a region.
