In December 2017, Niger released its first Health Climate Bulletin, which was produced by the multidisciplinary Climate-Health Group. This is one of five climate thematic groups set up under the Niger’s National Framework for Climate Services, which is now under implementation.

In Senegal, cereal production is estimated to have increased by 20% in 2017 compared to 2016. Climate experts will investigate how much climate services contributed to this improvement in coming years, given Senegal’s dedication to ramping up climate services in the country.

In two pilot communities monthly capacity-building workshops are offered to discuss and apply pilot forecast products. More than 60 farmers from the Quechua district of Pusi (Northern Puno) and 28 from the Aymara district Ilave (Southern Puno) participated and learned how to interpret and use regional climate and weather forecasts at the local scale.

Yesterday, MeteoSwiss received the annual Research Award of the Swiss Forum for International Agricultural Research (SFIAR) for the CLIMANDES project. The cooperation project between the Peruvian meteorological service SENAMHI and MeteoSwiss and other partners was awarded for their commitment to smallholder farmers in Peru.
